First Milking vs Later Milking Colostrum
By Trillium Nutritional · · 4 min read
Not all colostrum is the same. When it is collected makes a real difference.
Colostrum changes quickly
Colostrum is most concentrated right after birth. Over the following milkings, it gradually shifts toward regular milk.
Why early milkings matter
The first milkings carry the highest levels of immunoglobulins, lactoferrin, and other naturally occurring compounds. Later milkings are thinner and more like ordinary milk.
What Trillium uses
Trillium uses colostrum from the first and second milking only, collected after the calf has been fed, then freeze-dried in small batches.
